The Great Tythe Barn is licensed to hold Civil Marriage and Commitment Ceremonies as well as Ceremonies for the Renewal of Vows.

For small ceremonies up to 65 guests, Newnton gallery in the Great Tythe Barn provides an intimate and attractive setting while Shipton, on the ground floor, is perfect for up to 110 guests. Alternatively, for larger gatherings, we have an area called Estcourt which is licensed to hold ceremonies for up to 200 guests.

The Ceremony
When the bridal party has arrived, they are escorted through the barn's impressive entrance doors, to the ceremony room behind the seated guests. The bride then walks down the aisle towards the groom and best man who are waiting at the front of the barn by the dais where they, along with the guests, watch her entrance.

The ceremony is normally conducted by a registrar from the Cirencester Registrar's Office and takes between 20 and 30 minutes, Legal and binding, the ceremony and must be conducted to a standard procedure. However, the bride and groom can usually personalise their ceremony by including music, readings or poetry. Any additions to the ceremony must be agreed in advance with the Cirencester Registrar's Office. There is no reason why you cannot have live music, such as a string quartet, harpist or solo singer but pre-recorded music can be played if you wish.

After the ceremony, guests are asked to leave the Great Tythe Barn and invited for pre-reception drinks on the pretty courtyard lawn (weather permitting), while the appropriate area in the Great Tythe Barn is prepared for the Wedding Breakfast. If the weather is inclement, drinks are served in the barn's gallery overlooking Shipton.

Be Prepared
Our ceremonies are usually arranged with Cirencester Register Office, but we can call on other offices in the area if necessary. These include Cheltenham, Gloucester, Stroud, Forest of Dean and North Cotswold Register Offices. Bookings for civil marriage ceremonies can be made with any of the Registration Offices in Gloucestershire up to twelve months in advance. Please contact Gloucestershire Registration Service as soon as you are able to agree a date and time for your ceremony.

Whether you choose a traditional church wedding, civil ceremony at the Great Tythe Barn or a themed wedding, you will receive the full attention of a Wedding Coordinator, who will happily tailor your special day to your personal requirements, however large or small.
