The Great Tythe Barn is just a short walk from the centre of Tetbury, the southern gateway to the Cotswolds. This area is the epitome of all that is best about an unspoiled English landscape yet is within easy access to the historic cities of Bath and Cheltenham.

Most people associate Tetbury with its strong royal links through Highgrove House, home to the Prince of Wales, yet this charming market town is also world renowned as a centre for antiques. During the Middle Ages, Tetbury was a centre for wool and yarn and the annual Woolsack Races are still celebrated today. Relay teams race up and down Gumstool Hill, one of the steepest hills in Gloucestershire, carrying 50-lb woolsacks.

The town's focal point is the 17th-century pillared Market House which was originally built for the storage and sale of wool. Many of the area's fine houses were built as a result of Tetbury's prosperous wool trade.

From the Market House, Chipping Lane leads to The Chipping via Chipping Steps. This medieval cobbled stairway used to be the site for the Mop Fairs, and the pretty houses that line it seem little changed over the years.

Just outside Tetbury is Chavenage House, the oldest Elizabethan historic manor house in the Cotswolds. Open to the public from May to September, every Thursday and Sunday from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm. Also open on Bank Holidays, Easter Sunday & Easter Monday.

The town has a wide selection of interesting shops and there are a variety of restaurants, pubs and tea rooms.
